Molina Healthcare of New Mexico Fresh Produce Delivery Partnership Improves Health Outcomes for Members

Albuquerque, N.M. – June 1, 2022 – As part of an ongoing effort to address social determinants of health impacting New Mexicans, Molina Healthcare of New Mexico (“Molina”) has partnered with FarmboxRx to expand a custom food delivery program focused on outcomes for Molina Medicare Advantage members and Molina Marketplace members under maternal care. The partnership will advance health equity for Molina members living in food deserts, home-bound individuals due to health conditions, mobility, or transportation challenges, and maternal populations.

 “Molina’s partnership with FarmboxRx ensures our members can access nutritious foods that help them live a healthier life and avoid diet-based health challenges impacting far too many New Mexicans,” said David Nater, plan president of Molina Healthcare of New Mexico. “We are proud of our work addressing the health disparities existing throughout New Mexico and are pleased to expand this program and reach even more of our members.”

Qualifying Molina New Mexico members enrolled in the program receive monthly boxes upon completion of activities aimed to improve health outcomes. Boxes contain fresh produce, health literacy resources, healthy recipes, and nutrition tips.

Results from the 2021 program show participating members demonstrated:

  • Improved engagement with doctor office visits, lab completion, and vaccinations;
  • A 95% completion rate of Health Risk Appraisal (HRA); and
  • A six-times higher rate of engagement, versus non-participants, with the completion of HRAs, detection of behavioral health indicators, wellness goal identification, and an increase in health screening visits.

FarmboxRx may be available through your Medicaid or Medicare program as an Advantage Benefit, part of your Over the Counter (OTC) Card benefit, or as a part of your Healthy Food Card benefit.

How does my box get delivered?

FarmboxRx delivers via FedEx in refrigerated boxes to keep produce cool and fresh. You can track the status of your package after it ships using the FedEx tracking link emailed to you.

What's in a box?

The menu changes monthly and each box that we offer has different seasonal contents depending on the box type. You can read more about what’s on the menu for each box variation by signing into your FarmboxRx account and clicking on the produce box you’re interested to learn more about. The menus are located under the respective box type on the individual product pages.

Our condition specific boxes are designed by a team of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) to support the wellness of those with certain health conditions.

How much produce is in each box?

What if I don't like something on the menu?

If you don’t like a certain item on the menu for the box you’ve selected you can check the monthly menu for other boxes that we carry. Each box has different items on the menu and you have the ability to select the one that best fits your needs and preferences!
